In the afternoon of July 13, 2017 in Tokyo, the meeting was held between Dr. Mochamad Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and Housing, the Republic of Indonesia and Mr. Kenyu Komura, President of Incorporated Administrative Agency Japan Water Agency (=JWA) Dr. Basuki is now staying in Tokyo for four days to attend the award presentation ceremony for International Lifetime Contribution Award of 2016 from Japan Society of Civil Engineers.

JWA established Network of Asian River Basin Organizations (=NARBO) in 2004 in cooperation with Asian Development Bank (=ADB) and Asian Development Bank Institute (=ADBI) and since then it has been working as one of the Secretariats. Dr. Basuki became the first chairperson of NARBO and led its activities in its early stage. Furthermore, he is still contributing to NARBO activities as Senior Adviser.

In this meeting, Dr. Basuki expressed his appreciations to JWA for its long-term cooperation to NARBO. He also mentioned that Indonesian side would keep supporting NARBO activities and requested for JWA’s continued cooperation in fostering the capacity of the staff of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, which was being engaged in water resources development and management in Indonesia.

He also expressed his opinion that as water resources management was the crucial factor for sustainable economic development of Indonesia, further intercommunication should be strengthened between them, taking advantage of the experiences and technologies in “Integrated Water Resources Management” JWA had accumulated so far.
