NARBO

Introduction

Based on the Action Plan of 2006-2007 and 2008-2009, NARBO is planning a series of three workshops on the theme of Water-Related Disaster and Its Management in Asian Countries.

In NARBO thematic workshops, one topic workshop consists of a series. The workshop consists of only a limited number of participants and basically the same members are supposed to make the discussion deep and practical.
The goal of this workshop is to develop capacity of key organizations for water-related disaster management by (ⅰ) providing basic concepts and principles; (ⅱ) sharing country challenges and strategies; and (ⅲ) formulating an action plan.
Japan Water Agency leads this workshop in cooperation with Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI).

The serial workshops have been held and are planned as follows:

• (ⅰ) 1st workshop, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, November 26-29, 2007 (Completed)
• identify and analyze the characteristics and issues on water-related disaster management in each country
• (ⅱ) 2nd Workshop, Metro Manila, the Philippines, October 7-10, 2008 (current)
• deeply re-examine the issues on water-related disaster management
• investigate and evaluate the strategies and solutions to address the issues
• (ⅲ) 3rd Workshop, Malaysia (tentative), February 2009
• present and discuss the action plan by each participant

The outline of the 2nd workshop is as follows:

• Date: October 7-10, 2008
• Venue: Metro Manila, the Philippines
• Host: Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA)
• Participants: 7 delegates from 7 countries (Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam) are core members and 23 persons participated in total including domestic participants
