Dao Xuan Hoc
– Chairman of Vietnam NARBO –

Graduated from the Hanoi University of Water Resources in 1976, Pro.Dr. Dao Xuan Hoc was a lecture of Water Resources University in periods 1976-1986. He did his PhD study of Water Resources at Sofia – Bulgaria. From 2005 to 2008, He was a Rector of Hanoi University of Water Resources. He has been Vice Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development since 2007.

The achievements of Hanoi University of Water Resources indicate the reliable ways of reaching the set of objectives, invariably taking guidance from the general laws inherent in educational construction. As a Rector, he has devoted considerable attention to improving the teaching methods which concentrate upon laboratory and practical classes and to such aids as films, audio-visual system, etc… Much is being done to equip the university with more modern technical aids… Thanks to his efforts and directions, Hanoi University of Water Resources has become the leading one in water resources education and training in Viet Nam.

Pro.Dr. Dao Xuan Hoc is a senior expert with 33-year experiences in river basin water resources management in Vietnam. He has important texbooks published worldwide, particularly hydraulic work measure to protest erosion in hight land area (1995); participatory irrigation management - PIM(1998); Drought and protection measure (2005); Vietnamese Hydraulic work for rural infrastructure development; Loss water in the hydraulic work system; Some issues on transport infrastructure development in rural areas in Vietnam; Fresh water for rural area – actual state and solution; Drought and measures for alleviating drought impacts in Central Vietnam provinces and various articles on professional journals; Science basic for operating system establishment.

Additionally, having involved in the most important water resources projects in Viet Nam including the development of “Dong Nai River Basin Integrated Water Resources Project”; “Vam Co River Basin environment protecting Project”; “Drought and measures for alleviating drought impacts in Vietnam”; “Flood and storm control in Dong Thap Muoi area”; “Some measures for alleviating disaster impacts in central coastal provinces in Vietnam”; “.

As a Vice Minister, Pro. Dr. Dao Xuan Hoc has presided over important programs of Water Resources Sector, particularly “Dyke Law”; “Water Resources Development Strategy up to 2020 in Vietnam”; “Improving Hydraulic Work System Effect Program”; “Action plan for climate change  adaptability”; “Water Resources Law”. His knowledge and understanding are essential for his individual successes and the NARBO Vietnam’s prestige.

Since the establishment of River Basin Organization in Vietnam, Pro.Dr. Dao Xuan Hoc advocates a very active cooperation with the NARBO by supporting for his staffs to participate in NARBO trainings, workshops and other activities. He has had much experience, having been a leading promoter in the establishment of river basin organizations in Vietnam. His name is so popular and he is warmly complimented for his success.
