The day 1 (27 November) of the 8th IWRM training

DAY 1 (27 November 2013)

 The 8th Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Training was held at MAS Fabric Park Training Center, Kurunegala Road,the enduring images of Sri Lanka - was lit to signify not only the start of the 8th IWRM Training, but also the start of a bright new future among Thulhiriya, Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lankat. It was hosted by Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka (MASL) in collaboration with the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management of Sri Lanka. 27 participants from 11 countries across Asia attended the training.

 The first day of the training started with Sri Lanka’s traditional ceremony called “Lighting Traditional Oil Lamp,whereby a brass oil lamp - one ofthe participants in advancing the IWRM process. The training was officially started by the Secretary Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management of Sri Lanka, in the hope that all participants will get more advance knowledge during the training and can support the development of IWRM in their respective countries.Most of the sessions on the first day were the introduction presentations, but the most interesting presentation for the participants was the introduction f IWRM Guideline


presented by Mr. Tomotaka Higuchi from ADB – Institute. He described the guidelines books and then explained the IWRM Spiral model, which later became the assignment for all the participants to create their own IWRM Spiral models for their respective river basins.

The last session on the first day was the poster presentation by participants, whereby 12 of 27 participants voluntary presented their posters. The session was quite interesting and informative. The presenters shared their experiences conducting IWRM in their respective countries with other participants and the discussions about the issues were made in a cosy and friendly atmosphere.
