Secretariat of NARBO conducted Advance Visit to Sri Lanka
for 7th IWRM Training

 

Secretariat of NARBO visited Sri Lanka to make discussions with Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka (MASL) and the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management, to share information with International Water Management Institute (IWMI), ADB Sri Lanka Resident Mission (SLRM) and JICA Sri Lanka Office (JICA), to make courtesy visit to the Embassy of Japan, and to investigate for candidate places for accommodations and Study Visit for 7th IWRM Training.

 

At first, secretariat visited to MASL and confirmed the schedule of this advance visit.
After that, they moved to Thulhiriya.
The MAS Fabric Park, a candidate place for accommodation, located in Thulhiriya, was nice place and secretariat of NARBO confirmed availability of the location.

 

 

Some of secretariats went to water-related facilities in Mahaweli River Basin such as Kotmale dam, Polgolla barrage and Kala Wewa (Reservoir). They understood that Sri Lankan has long history of water-related facilities by watching ancient canals and achieved effective management of water by using cascade system.

 

The other secretariats had a meeting with the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management and MASL. They explored useful and practical contents for training program. Thanks to the great effort and contribution from the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources and MASL, the discussion brought further improvement to the training program.

 

After gathering secretariat of NARBO, they visited to IWMI, SLRM and JICA in order. They shared water-related projects and information in Sri Lanka and all of them voluntary promised to seek for cooperation to the 7th IWRM training.

 

Lastly, secretariat of NARBO talked with MASL about revised program of 7th IWRM training and made intensive discussion about much further improvement of the training program, and they confirmed future procedure for the training..
Because of wonderful support from MASL, the advance visit turned out much success.
Secretariat of NARBO has gotten great confidence on the contents of 7th IWRM Training.
