Welcome Message to a New NARBO Member

The Office of the Secretary of the Songkhla Lake Basin Committee in Thailand
We welcome the Office of the Secretary of the Songkhla Lake Basin Committee in Thailand to NARBO! We, NARBO Members and Secretariat, are delighted to have you with us. Your role as a River Basin Organization (RBO) is essential in fulfilling the mission of NARBO. We also look forward to sharing your future activities on IWRM including proposing policy and plan for water resources management in the river basin, implementation of water resources conservation, rehabilitation and development, and promotion of public participation among NARBO member organizations.
The Office of the Secretary of the Songkhla Lake Basin Committee is a government organization established in 2002 on the basis of Article 12 of the Office of the Prime Minister's Regulations, and has conducted a project of IWRM implementation in Tonle Sap Lake of Cambodia and Songkhla Lake Basin of Thailand under communication outreach of Mekong‐IWRM through the Mekong River Commission since 2013. Its objective is good resource governance in support of prosperous and healthy Songkhla and Tonle Sap Lakes, for the benefit of sustainable livelihoods of the people in surrounding lakes, and serving as an example to inspire others who are in involved in watershed management. Moreover, the project has 3 pilot sites for community‐based activities below:
  1. Fishery‐related activities in Ban Chong Fuen
  2. Community empowerment in Ban Ta‐him
  3. Climate change adaptation in Ban Thale Noi.
There have been their activity results in sharing vision, strategic plan, lesson learnt in both lakes for further sustainable management through dialogue, communication and exchange visit.
The Office of the Secretary of the Songkhla Lake Basin Committee is interested in gaining more collaborative work among relevant agencies for better IWRM practices including plan formulation, capacity building of the Committee and Sub‐committees, establishment of water conflict management mechanism and development of decision support system, etc. In addition, they are interested in setting up platform for data and knowledge exchange and sharing among relevant agencies.
